PB RS 1 on Land Rover Defender

Land Rover Defender Forged Wheels

PB RS 1 on Land Rover Defender, High Gloss Black, 22"

The Land Rover Defender has quietly become one of the strongest sources of forged-wheel demand in the UK, and one of the more interesting vehicles to engineer for, because it lives a genuine dual life.

We've built for the current L663, our gallery includes a PB RS 1 in high gloss black at 22", and we support the 90 and 110 body variants, as well as heritage and Wolf-lineage commissions. The Defender community cares about that lineage, and we treat a Wolf-inspired brief with the same seriousness as a modern lifestyle build.

Every wheel is load-rated to exceed the OEM figure, because the Defender is a vehicle people actually use, towing, loading, and in some cases taking off-road. Forged construction gives us that strength at lower weight than cast, which matters when you're adding capability rather than just appearance.

All of our Defender wheels are engineered in the UK and made to order. Nothing comes off a shelf: each set is forged and finished for your exact Defender, then inspected before it ships.

If you're planning a build, road, lifestyle or working, start with a conversation about how you use the car.

Sizing guide

The current Defender (L663) leaves the factory on anything from 18" to 22", with the aftermarket sweet spot at 21" and 22". But the Defender is a genuine dual-purpose vehicle, and the right size depends heavily on what you do with it, a decision we make with you, since every set is forged to order.

20", for working and off-road use. If your Defender earns its keep off-road, tows heavily, or carries real load, favour 20". The extra sidewall absorbs impacts on rough ground, protects the wheel on rocks and ruts, and, importantly, opens up a far wider choice of all-terrain and off-road tyres, most of which are sized for smaller diameters. It's the pragmatic, capable choice.

22", for lifestyle and road builds. At the other end, 22" gives the Defender the planted, premium stance that suits a road-focused or lifestyle build. Our gallery PB RS 1, a monoblock in high gloss black on an L663, runs 22" for exactly that look. You give up some off-road tyre choice and a little impact cushion, but for a Defender that lives on tarmac it's the more striking option.

21", the middle path. Twenty-one inches splits the difference: more presence than 20", more compliance than 22". A sensible default if you want the look without committing to road-only use.

Body variant matters. The 90, 110 and 130 differ in wheelbase and arch clearance, which affects both the stance a given size produces and the offset we specify. We account for your exact body style at the engineering stage.

Because we forge to order. If your brief is heritage, a Wolf-inspired design, say, size is only the start of the conversation. We work through diameter, width, offset, finish and the lineage you're after together. Tell us how you use the Defender and we'll spec from there.

Frequently asked

Will these clear the Defender L663 brake setup?
Yes. The L663 brake package is well-known to us, we engineer Defender wheels to clear the standard and uprated brake setups without spacers. The PB RS 1 in our gallery (the high gloss black 22" build) is fitted to a stock L663 brake configuration. If your Defender has aftermarket brakes (TDi performance kits, AP Racing upgrades, or similar), let us know at consultation and we'll validate clearance against the actual caliper geometry before forging.
Can you make wheels that capture the Wolf look but in a modern forged construction?
Yes, this is one of the more interesting Defender commissions we take on. The Wolf lineage carries real weight in the Defender community, and modernising that geometry (the spoke pattern, the hub treatment, the offset) into a forged construction is a fitting bespoke brief. We'd treat this as a design conversation rather than a catalogue pick, bring reference images and we'll work backwards from there.
I do real off-road work in my Defender, are forged wheels appropriate?
For most off-road duty cycles, yes. Forged wheels are denser and stronger than cast at the same weight, which improves impact resilience on rock and root strikes. They also flex less, which improves bead retention at low tyre pressures. The honest caveat: if you're doing extreme rock-crawling where you expect to bend wheels regularly, a steel wheel is the cheaper choice, forged wheels are still field-repairable but not field-disposable. For green-laning, expedition use, and serious off-road touring, forged is appropriate and arguably better than OEM cast.
Do you make wheels for the 90 body style as well as the 110?
Yes, every body variant is supported (90, 110, 130). The geometry differences are mostly cosmetic at the wheel level (offset, lip depth, visual stance) rather than mechanical, we engineer for each variant individually at the consultation stage. Tell us which body you're on and we'll specify accordingly.
Where are PB Forged wheels manufactured?
Every PB Forged wheel is engineered in the UK, design, fitment validation, structural analysis and quality specification all happen in-house. The forging itself is routed to the partner facility best suited to the specific project: UK, US, or Taiwan, depending on construction complexity, finish requirements, and the tolerances the build demands. The routing decision is part of the engineering brief, each commission goes to the manufacturer that will deliver the best wheel for that build, not a default supply chain.
How long is the lead time?
Our wheels are made to order, with a typical lead time of 6 to 8 weeks from order confirmation to delivery. This isn't pulled-from-stock, each set is forged, finished and inspected specifically for your car. The window covers engineering review (we validate fitment for your exact chassis and brake setup), forging, finishing in your chosen specification, and final UK quality control before despatch. If you have a fixed deadline (car show, event, build deadline), tell us at the consultation stage and we'll confirm whether the window can compress.
